TFMC traces its roots back to the very beginnings of the town’s history: a Methodist congregation was established not long after Tullahoma was founded as a railroad community in 1852, and in 1854 land at the corner of Jackson and Lauderdale Streets was deeded specifically for a Methodist Episcopal place of worship. That original early church structure was burned during the Civil War, replaced by a frame building, and later gave way to more permanent brick construction in 1889, with the sanctuary that anchors the congregation’s historic presence today. Over the decades the church has been a central part of worship, community life, and spiritual continuity in Tullahoma, maintaining a tradition of Methodist ministry on the Lauderdale Street site ever since. In early 2023 the church disaffiliated from the United Methodist Church and is now an independent Methodist congregation.
